In 2012, the Hasselt Japanese garden celebrated its 20 years. Our members Staf Daems, Keiko Sonobe, and Chris Piccard have initiated journalist Tina Maerevoet from Een (Flemish TV) to the tea ceremony in Hasselt's chashitsu in the TV programme Vlaanderen Vakantieland (Dutch spoken).

At the last Summer Intensive Seminar in Hurtebise, Belgium, June 2011, a fourth member for this year received a chamei from Nojiri Sensei : Eric Franchimont. He was bestowed by Zabōsai O Iemoto Sen Sōshitsu, XVIth Urasenke Grand Master the chamei Sōyū. Congratulations for this recognition of his relentless efforts and dedication to the Way of Tea !

The XXth Summer Intensive Seminar in Hurtebise was a great success ! 32 participants from 11 nationalities have practiced the tea ceremony and daily Zen meditation under the instructions of Nojiri-sensei and her assistant instructors from our Tankokai. Practice covered the whole range of the Urasenke Chadō curriculum, from ryakubon through konarai and chabako to shikaden and shin no gyo daisu. The atmosphere was studious and convivial, as always !

At the last Advanced Intensive Chanoyu Seminar in Glengarriff, Ireland, April 2011, our three members Staf Daems, Thierry Geerinckx, and Chantal Verdoodt have received from Nojiri Sensei a chamei bestowed by Zabōsai O Iemoto Sen Sōshitsu, XVIth Urasenke Grand Master. Congratulations to Sōhō, Sōwa, and Sōgyoku, for this recognition of their relentless efforts and dedication to the Way of Tea !

Donation to victims of earthquake and tsunami in Japan: Our association has collected 440 EUROS by giving tea ceremony demonstrations at the Made in Asia 2011 fair in Brussels, 19 and 20 March 2011. We donated the full amount to the Urgence Japon account of the Belgian Red Cross. We thank all the visitors of our booth for their interest and generosity !

The Winter Intensive Chado Seminar in Clerlande, has taken place Sunday January 2nd until Thursday January 7th, 2011, with 30 participants from 10 different countries. We all learned a lot and spent very nice hours together practicing and drinking tea.

On Nov 5th, 2010, our members gave a demonstration during the "Japan Week" of the Cultural and Information Center of the Embassy of Japan in Belgium.

On July 4th, we gave demonstrations during the Tanabata stars festival in the Japanese garden of Hasselt. The Summer Intensive Seminar in Hurtebise took place on 5-9 June 2010, preceded by a two-days zen sesshin led by Yamada-osho from Shinju-an, Daitokuji, Kyoto. A total of 36 participants from 12 countries participated and shared practice under the guidance of Nojiri sensei assisted by several participating tea instructors. Thanks to everyone for this wonderful week together !

We celebrated the Japanese Flowers festival - O Hanami - in the Japanese garden of Hasselt on 4 April 2010.

Ulrich Haas sensei gave a tea ceremony seminar in Brussels on 20-22 March 2010. The atmosphere was intimate, profound, and joyful, as always under the inspiring teaching of Ulrich Haas. We look forward to next year's seminar !

The "Chawan Expo", that had taken place in Torhout an exhibition of tea bowls is running in Andenne, Belgium, until March 21, 2010.

On Sunday 17 January 2010, from 14h00 til 16h00, Charles van Overstyns has given a demonstration and comprar stilnox conference on the theme "The Tea Ceremony, between China and Japan" at the Musee Royal de Mariemont.

On Saturday 2 January 2010, as an introduction to the Winter Chadō Seminar in Clerlande, Nojiri Michiko Sensei has given a demonstration in the tea ceremony, followed by a small conference.

On Sunday 15 November 2009, during the "Chawan Expo" in Torhout (5 Oct. - 28 Nov. 2009), Eric Franchimont (who exhibits his chawan work at the Expo), and Staf Daems gave a demonstration in the tea ceremony at the "Museum Torhouts Aardewerk", Kasteel Ravenhof - Ravenhofstraat 5 - 8820 Torhout

On Friday 16 October 2009, during the Japan Week 2009, we have given two Chadō demonstrations at the Cultural and Information Center of the Embassy of Japan in Belgium, Brussels.

On September 12th and 13th, members of the Chadō Urasenke Tankokai Belgium gave hourly demonstrations of tea ceremony at the "In balans - Oost West" Festival in Drongen, B.

From August 23rd until September 5th 2009, 6 tea instructors from the Chadō Urasenke Tankokai Belgium joined a study trip with Nojiri Sensei to Kyōto, Japan, organised to celebrate 40 years of teaching in Europe by Nojiri Sensei. Our 24-persons European group first spent a 3-days-long Zen sesshin at the Hōnbō of Daitokuji , under the guidance of Yamada Sōshō Rōshi. After that, we enjoyed 6 wonderful days of teaching in the Urasenke Midorikai and Gakuen classrooms from Shirahase, Yamasawa, and Nara Senseis. The teaching days were completed with an aisatsu with Zabōsai Iemoto, a reception with Hōunsai Daisosho, the Rikyu-ki and three chakai at Daitokuji, visits at famous artists' workshops, and a full-day chakai with the Urasenke International Association (UIA) in Shu Sui Tei. We will never forget this unique and exceptional experience at the heart of the Tea Ceremony tradition !

Ryurei tea ceremony at Tanabata Festival, Hasselt On Sunday 5 July 2009, members of the Chadō Urasenke Tankokai Belgium gave hourly demonstrations of tea ceremony during the special Tanabata Festival events organised at the Japanese garden of Hasselt. We were honoured by the visit of the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Japan in Belgium and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Hakkaku.

European-Opera-Days
On Saturday, 9 May 2009, members of our association provided three demonstrations of tea ceremony (11h15, 13h15 and 15h15) as part of the programme of the Open Opera! European Opera Days at "De Munt/La Monnaie".

Chabako tea ceremony with cherry blossoms, Hasselt On Sunday 5 April 2009, members of the Chadō Urasenke Tankokai Belgium gave uninterrupted demonstrations of "chabako" (open air) tea ceremonies during the special Ohanami Festival events organised at the Japanese garden of Hasselt. The cherry blossoms were magnificent and we served nearly 100 teabowls to curious and interested visitors !
